Privacy & Terms
Plain language, because you should actually read this.
Last updated: 1 October 2026. This page covers what SwordVow collects, what it refuses to collect, and what happens when money is involved.
The short version
Your vow stays on your device
In this version of SwordVow there is no account and no server storing your vows. Everything you write — your goal, your reason, your daily action, your record — lives in your browser’s local storage on the device you typed it on. We cannot read it. We also cannot recover it if you clear your browser, which is why the app gives you a one-click export.
No accounts, so no profile
We don’t ask for your name, and there is no sign-up. There is no tracking pixel, no advertising identifier, no analytics profile, and no third-party tracker on this site.
Payment data never touches us
If you subscribe to Vowkeeper, the payment is processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd, which acts as the merchant of record. Your card number goes to Paddle, never to SwordVow. We receive only a customer reference and whether the subscription is active. Paddle is the seller of record, so it also issues your invoice and handles sales tax and VAT.
You can leave with everything
Export your record as a JSON file at any time from the Vow Chamber. Deleting your data means clearing your browser storage — the export exists so that decision is always reversible.
What we actually collect
If you only use the free version
Nothing that identifies you. Your vows and record are stored in your browser, on your device, and are never transmitted to us. If you never subscribe, we have no record that you exist.
If you subscribe to Vowkeeper
- Email address — to send receipts and to let you cancel. Used for nothing else, and never sold.
- Subscription status — active or cancelled, plus a Paddle customer reference.
- Billing country — required by tax law.
If you set a money stake
- A payment method saved with Paddle — we never receive or store the card number itself.
- The unsealed dates — necessary to calculate the charge, and shown back to you in your record.
- A charity selection, if you choose one — passed to a licensed donation platform so the transfer can be made and reported.
Hosting and logs
The site is served by a hosting provider that keeps standard, short-lived access logs (IP address, time, requested page) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are not used to build profiles and are not combined with any other data.
Cookies and tracking
SwordVow sets no advertising and no analytics cookies. The only browser storage used is local storage, which holds your vow so the app can show it back to you. It is not a cookie, it is not sent anywhere, and deleting it removes all of your data from this site.
Paddle may set cookies when you enter a payment flow. Their handling is governed by Paddle’s own privacy policy, which we link to before you pay.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and the CCPA/CPRA you have the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data, and to object to processing. Because this product was built without an account system, most of these rights are exercised by you directly:
- Access and export — press “Export backup” in the Vow Chamber. You get a complete, readable JSON file.
- Delete — clear your browser’s site data, or press import to restore an empty file. Nothing remains on our side.
- Correct — edit your vow directly in the app.
- For anything we do hold (an email address and subscription status, if you subscribed), email us and we will export or delete it within 30 days.
- No sale of personal information. We have never sold personal data and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Terms — the parts that matter
What SwordVow is
SwordVow is a self-accountability tool. It helps you record a commitment and see, plainly, how you did. It is not therapy, medical care, or financial advice, and it makes no claim that using it will cause you to reach any goal.
Stakes are not bets
A stake is a penalty you charge yourself for missing a day. It is not a wager, a bet, a lottery, or a contest. There is no prize, no payout, no odds, and no way to win money. Money never moves between users. You cannot deposit funds with SwordVow, hold a balance, or withdraw anything, and we never take custody of your money at any point.
How a stake charge works
- You are charged only for days you do not seal. Days you keep are never charged.
- Your chosen amount is disclosed before you confirm, and the amount per missed day is fixed at the time you set it.
- SwordVow retains 20% as a service fee. The remainder is forwarded to your chosen recipient through a licensed donation platform.
- Contributions made through the platform are not charitable deductions for you — the receipting entity, not SwordVow, determines that. We will always show you who that entity is before you confirm.
- You can disarm a stake at any time before a charge is triggered.
Subscriptions and cancelling
Vowkeeper is $8 per month or $69 per year, billed in advance and renewing automatically until cancelled. Cancelling takes the same number of clicks as subscribing — there is no phone call, no retention flow, and no cancellation fee. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues to the end of the period you paid for.
AI daily anchors are subject to fair use of 60 generations per month, stated on the pricing page rather than hidden in a policy.
Refunds
If you are in the EU or UK, you have a 14-day right of withdrawal on the subscription; by starting to use Vowkeeper features you ask us to begin performance immediately. Outside that window, contact us within 14 days of a charge and we will refund it if the service did not work as described. Stake charges are triggered by your own missed days and are not refundable, because the commitment you made is the product.
Fair use and limits
Don’t abuse the service: no automated bulk account creation, no scraping, no attempting to defeat the stake mechanism, no using it to move money on behalf of someone else. We may suspend accounts that do.
Your data, our liability
Because your record is stored on your own device, we cannot be responsible for data you lose by clearing your browser, losing your device, or switching phones without exporting. Take a backup. Beyond that, the service is provided as-is, and our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the previous twelve months.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is established. Nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer under your local law.
